After witnessing firsthand the quietly insidious racism embedded within "community development" organizations, the founder of East Buffalo Development is compelled to create a Community Development Corporation that is genuinely intended to empower the people of the Eastside, combat gentrification, and reverse hundreds of years of degradation.
The My Power Series, is funded by a $10,000 grant awarded from Pursuit, a local CDFI. This inaugural grant allows the organization to host a five-part monthly business executive coaching "fireside" talk series held at the newly renovated Varsity Theatre.
LISC New York awards the organization with a two-year $200,000 grant to support the administrative needs of the organization. This grant lays the foundation for the organization to become an impactful community development corporation and successfully administer program-centered grant opportunities.
NYS Office of Homes and Community Renewal awards the organization $1.35M to facilitate the Vacant Rental Program on the Eastside. The organization gains momentum to fulfill its mission to support affordable housing development performed by contractors with Eastside roots .
